GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:
Performs technically skilled construction carpentry tasks and overseeing
trade sub-contractors. Works under regular supervision. Performs
difficult technical, trades and craft work in building renovation and
new residential construction.
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force
occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of
force frequently to move objects; requires climbing, balancing,
stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking,
pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling and repetitive
motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging
ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important
instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is
required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, to
receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make
fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth
perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or
computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small
parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or
within arms length; operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles
or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and
observing general surroundings and activities; subject to inside and
outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise,
vibration and hazards. May be exposed to blood-borne pathogens and may
be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Hands on construction carpentry projects in residential home building.
May supervise on some construction projects; prepares and maintains
appropriate records and files.

Schedules sub-contractors on new residential home and renovation
construction projects.

Monitors OSHA safety conditions.
·
Performs work tasks in painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry,
masonry, concrete, drywall and other related construction trades as
needed.

Observes and monitors daily site work of contractors on physical
improvement projects in the Capital Fund Program.
·
Observes and reports on all contractor related tasks.
·
Capable of reading blue prints and interpreting specifications..
·
Maintains a daily log.
·
Plans and schedules work and stock necessary materials and supplies for
projects.
·
Pulls applicable permits as required.
·
Builds residential decks and front porches.
·
Repair and replace interior trim in home rehabilitations.
·
Capable of performing home construction final walk-thru and create a
punch list.
·
Perform all necessary work to fulfill a punch-out man’s duties and
responsibilities.
·
Ability to create construction take-offs.
·
Performs other duties as requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used
in construction, maintenance and repair projects; thorough knowledge of
hazards and safety precautions associated with type of work assigned;
thorough knowledge of applicable codes and pertinent inspection and
safety requirements; ability to acquire permits; skill in the use of
hand and power tools used in construction work; ability to recognize and
diagnose problems; ability to make time and materials estimates; ability
to follow oral and written instructions; ability to plan and supervise
the work of others; ability to work from sketches, blueprints and
drawings; demonstrated ability to properly and efficiently use tools and
materials in the construction trades; ability to maintain records;
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
associates and program participants. Helpful to possess knowledge of
the Critical Path Residential Home Construction method.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation
from high school or GED and extensive experience in construction work.
Some experience in the fields of electrical, plumbing, painting,
drywall, siding and roofing, and carpentry. Some supervisory experience
is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess or be capable of attaining a journeyman’s classification in
carpentry. Possession of valid appropriate driver’s license issued in
the Commonwealth of Virginia and insurable under the vehicle insurance
policy of the Authority.
